Labia minora reduction, also known as labioplasty or vaginal aesthetic surgery, is a surgical procedure that allows patients to reduce or remodel their labia minora – the skin that covers the clitoris and vaginal opening. In certain cases, women with hypertrophic or asymmetrical labia minora may experience difficulty in terms of hygiene, pain during sexual relations or feel discomfort during day-to-day activities or when wearing tight clothing. Prominent labia minora can also sometimes be difficult to fit in underwear or bathing suits. Lastly, other women may feel unattractive to their sexual partner or want to improve their experience by removing part of the skin covering their clitoris.
Labia minora reduction is an outpatient procedure, generally carried out under local anaesthetic. After surgery, women may feel a certain discomfort and slight swelling, which generally disappears completely after 1-2 weeks. The incisions normally heal well and are rarely visible.
